Lot 1: 2016 Oddero Barolo Magnum
Sponsored by The Piedmont Guy
Poderi e Cantine Oddero ranks among the oldest established Barolo houses and owns prized parcels in several of Barolo’s most prestigious crus. Many of the family’s holdings date back to the 1700s, and the very first bottle of Oddero Barolo was released in 1878. Their 35 hectares encompass many of the top crus in the Langhe and Asti, including but not limited to Bussia in Monforte d’Alba, Brunate in La Morra, Vignarionda in Serralunga d’Alba, both Villero and Rocche di Castiglione in Castiglione Falletto, Monvigliero in Verduno, Gallina in Neive, and Nizza in Asti. With Giacomo Oddero continuing to oversee operations, the iconic estate in La Morra is now run by the sixth and seventh generations: his daughters, Mariavittoria and Mariacristina, and their respective children, Isabella and Pietro. In 2017, the family completed the process of converting their vineyards to certified organic farming. Oddero’s centuries-long experience, traditional winemaking style, and devotion to organic certification combine to render the house a benchmark producer in the region.
In addition to the esteemed reputation of this producer, the 2016 vintage quickly garnered the admiration of wine collectors worldwide upon its initial release. Bottled in magnum, ensuring a more gradual aging process, this wine represents a superb addition to any discerning wine collector's portfolio.

The Filliatreaus are renowned for having modernized winemaking in the Saumur and Saumur Champigny regions, producing vibrant wines with excellent fruit characteristics. Their wines are extremely popular on the Paris restaurant market and increasingly well known around the world.
It seems that a large stash of the 1989 has been lying undisturbed at the estate all these years. And what a bonanza for those who are lucky enough to get their hands on the wine! The 1989 vintage was born in what was a famously hot year in the Loire Valley. Great growing conditions and aging in magnum have produced a wine that can easily be enjoyed immediately or even in another 10 years.

Lot 3: 2015 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Spätlese Feinherb AP #15 Magnum
Sponsored by John Ritchie
Erich Weber of Hofgut Falkenstein makes ultra-traditional, dry-tasting Saar Rieslings.
Erich and Johannes let ambient yeasts ferment the musts in old oak casks in a deep, cool, and damp cellar with moldy stone walls, and most of the wines end up either naturally dry (trocken) or off-dry (feinherb). Hofgut Falkenstein, therefore, is one of the rare Saar producers that specializes in distinctive, bracing, light, dry or dry-tasting Rieslings, bottled traditionally by the cask. The bone-dry Rieslings are brisk. All the wines have a ripe, racy, and well-integrated acidity from low yields and old vines. The key is a good grape.
The Webers like to bottle each Fuder separately, which is unheard of today, even though it was the standard in old times. Therefore, they can have two or more casks from the same vineyard site and with the same Prädikat. These don't have the same AP number, because they come from different parcels of the same site and were fermented, aged, and bottled separately. The Estate bottled four different casks of Niedermennig Herrenberg Spätlese Feinherb in 2015, whose labelling only differs by the AP number.

Lot 4: 2019 Massican Annia Magnum
Sponsored by Massican
Annia brings together three grapes: old-vine Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Chardonnay sourced from the famed Hyde Vineyard in Carneros. “The blend is never scientific,” according to Dan. “It never repeats, and it’s never from a recipe. It’s about ‘What does it smell and feel like?’ I structure the wine like I’m building a house. The Tocai is the walls, the floor is Ribolla—it’s earthy and savory. Then the Chardonnay is the furniture, the accents, the artwork, and the rug that really ties the room together.”
We’re lucky to feature the 2019 after Dan donated two magnums of the 2018 to our auction last year which earned a Wine Enthusiast Top Ten selection.
Dan Petroski was San Francisco Chronicle’s 2017 Winemaker of the Year, one of Food and Wine’s 2022 Drink’s Innovators of the Year and he continues to collect countless recognitions as his vast interests and dynamic skillset allow him to span disciplines from literary to tech.

Lot 9: 2014 Arpepe Rossi di Valtellina Magnum
Sponsored by Bourget Imports
Valtellina is an alpine valley about a two-hour drive from Milan. It is about as far north as you can go in the Lombardy region of Italy without crossing over into Switzerland. The valley, crossed by the river Adda, is bordered to the west by Lake Como and to the east by the Bormio Mountains.
Wine has been produced there for over 2,000 years and terraces shape the landscape of the region today. Valtellina is home to some of the most dramatic vineyard landscapes in the world and it is the largest terraced wine region in Italy.
The region is best known for its bright, cherry-scented wines made from Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca.
Using traditional winemaking methods - the grapes are harvested manually even though the vines cling to a rocky slope - Ar Pe Pe has achieved a wine of subtle complexity that speaks to its Alpine roots. Unlike the more famous Nebbiolo appellations of Barolo or Barbaresco, this wine is ready for tonight’s table and would even appeal to lovers of Pinot Noir.

Lot 10: 2018 Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Jeroboam (3L)
Sponsored by Bearpath Golf and Country Club
Freemark Abbey was established in 1886 as the 16th bonded winery in Napa Valley and is considered one of the first Cabernet producers in the region. The property is home to an 1899 hand-built stone winery that serves as a fixture of Napa Valley history.
Freemark Abbey has been ahead of its time on several fronts, including having one of the region’s first female vintners, first “sampling rooms” (now called tasting rooms), first wine libraries, and first single-vineyard wines. Freemark Abbey was the only winery to have earned the distinction of showing both a red and white wine at the 1976 Judgment of Paris – an event that catapulted Napa Valley onto the world wine scene. At the event’s 2017 reenactment in Tokyo, our 1969 Cabernet Sauvignon garnered first place, attesting to the quality and longevity of our wines.
Freemark Abbey is esteemed by wine critics and enthusiasts alike for their classically structured Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Bordeaux varietal wines, sourced from several of Napa Valley’s most pedigreed sites, including the Bosché, Sycamore, and Colline vineyards.
The wine from this historic winery bottled in jeroboam (3L) is an impressive addition to any serious wine collection.

Lot 12: Through The Grapevine 11 Year Old Camus Il De Ré Cognac
Sponsored by La Maison and Velier
Through The Grapevine is a collection of single cask bottlings of the highest quality Cognac, carefully selected by La Maison du Whisky. This range was created to showcase the incredible potential of small, independent producers located all over the Cognac region and to highlight the unique personality of each of the different sub-regions of the area, or crus.
This is a delightfully rich and full bodied take on the classic Ile de Re Cognacs, an utterly unique terroir of Cognac. The Ugni Blanc grapes are grown on the island, just off the coast of France’s Cognac region, about as far afield of the most famous crus of the Grand Champagne and Borderies as you can get. The result is a grape that has taken on some of the seaside character of its soil, with a hint of saltiness to it.
The Cognac itself, distilled on the lees, was aged in lightly toasted oak barrels for 11 years. It has a sweet and fruity profile, with aromas of caramel, peaches and mint on the nose. The palate holds notes of apricots, strawberries and oak, with a salty seaside element throughout. Bottled at the full strength of 49% abv.

Lot 17: Aperitivo with Dan
Sponsored by Dan Petroski
Dan Petroski was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and has the swagger and the accent to prove it. After attending Columbia University where he played football, Dan went to work for Time, Inc. While there, he earned his MBA from NYU and worked his way up the ranks towards a promising future in magazine publishing. A good chunk of his tenure at Time was spent managing advertising clients, which involved considerable schmoozing. This is how Dan learned wine, by walking his expense account through the lists of Manhattan’s top restaurants. When the Wall Street Journal tried to poach him, Dan took a moment to reflect. Deciding a change of life was in order, he jettisoned to Sicily for a year, where he interned at Valle dell’Acate. While Dan’s intention was to return to New York to sell wine, a harvest invitation from Andy Smith at DuMOL in 2006 was too good to pass up, and Dan left the city again, this time facing west.
After harvest, Andy Smith hired Dan as Cellar Master at Larkmead. The following year, Dan was promoted to Assistant Winemaker, ultimately claiming the Larkmead Winemaker title in 2012. Before cementing his status as a Napa Valley Cabernet winemaker, in 2009 Dan launched a white wine only brand called Massican. Massican is Dan’s ode to the Mediterranean and his time spent living in Italy and drinking white wine. Dan is a gifted, instinctual winemaker, and his old world palate has guided his philosophy on wine. Dan’s approach and ability to craft wines as diverse as Cabernet Sauvignon and Tocai Friulano have earned him the recognition as San Francisco Chronicle’s Winemaker of the Year in 2017.
Join Dan Petroski for a lunch or happy hour at Bistro Don Giovanni in Napa Valley with Massican wines, coastal Italian foods, and special picks from Dan's cellar!
Apertivo with Dan is an experience for up to four people. Does not include airfare or lodging.

Lot 19: Dinner + Wine Pairings for Two
Sponsored by Herbst Eatery and Farm Stand
Herbst Eatery & Farm Stand is a chef-driven, neighborhood restaurant and market inspired by an Amish farm stand near the owners’ hobby farm about two hours southeast of the Twin Cities in Western Wisconsin’s picturesque Driftless Area. The farm stand is the source of many of the fresh ingredients Herbst’s owners use to create the almost entirely locally sourced meals they prepare at their farm. They value knowing where their food comes from and the care and respect for the land that nurtures it.
The farm stand is a place where neighbors run into each other in search of fresh eggs, a few cloves of organic garlic and perhaps a bit of news about an old classmate or the birth of a new grandchild.
And it’s a place that nourishes and connects the community that surrounds it. That’s what the Pierachs hope Herbst Eatery & Farm Stand can do for the South St. Anthony Park neighborhood they have called home for nearly 30 years.
Two kitchen side seats at the Herbst intimate chef’s counter including four courses of sharing plates showcasing chef’s picks of the season. Welcome apéritifs followed by pairings for each course curated by the Herbst sommelier team.

Lot 27: 2017 Beaulieu Vineyards Georges de Latour
Hand selected grapes from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines from the western bench of the Rutherford AVA in iconic BV Ranches No. 1 and No. 2, originally planted by Georges de Latour in the early 1900s. Focused on clonal selections (6, 4, 169, 5197, 7 and 8), which yield small berries with the high skin-to-juice ratio needed to make intense, long-lived wines. The fruit was handpicked and optically sorted once it arrived to the winery in order to ensure the highest quality selection. These specifically chosen vines are deeply rooted in the well-draining alluvial fan soils of Rutherford, considered one of the finest regions in the Napa Valley for Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2017 vintage in the Napa Valley was smaller yielding but high in quality. The region enjoyed much needed rain during the winter months ending the drought. A short period of warmer than usual temperatures during Labor Day weekend accelerated harvest for early ripening grapes varieties, resulting in an intense and, at times, unpredictable harvest. Though yields were lower than usual, the wines show exceptional flavor intensity and growing conditions were perfect for producing a wine with beautiful fruit and tremendous concentration of flavors, highly saturated color, and plenty of complexity.
